Modesto Vergara is a farmer residing in Lemery Batangas, currently working in the farming industry for over 55 years. Modesto Vergara inherited the farm of his parents, who taught him the ways of farming. Grateful for the invaluable knowledge imparted by his parents, Modesto remains committed to the demanding yet rewarding profession of farming.

However, Modesto admits that rice cultivation poses challenges due to its intricate processes. Additionally, the unpredictability of weather conditions can impact their farming endeavours. Additionally, as a farmer, Modesto emphasises the financial struggles, noting that while they manage to earn, it's often just enough to meet basic needs and not sufficient for the entire family.

In line with this, the real competitor for him is the price of the fertilisers because it is very expensive. They are already lucky if they get something from the government but most of the time it is up to their own strategy on how they can live and take care of their farmland.
